Having spent 3 years on this house project we are nearing the end and finishing the outside. We are rendering part of it and leaving the rest exposed brick. Have had new windows and roof, so it should look really smart. One of the last decisions is the fascias and guttering.

We are running low on our budget and our builder said that plastic fascias and guttering would save quite a bit. I’m worried this will look naff and cheapen the look of the house. Any thoughts?

I would go for painted wood for the facias. Guttering you can get some decent looking plastic and you can replace it cheaply if there is an issue.

We had the same dilemma and as an compromise went for plastic guttering and wooden painted fascias. I felt the plastic fascias were too chunky and quite obvious UPVC which I am not a huge fan of. It looks good and the plastic guttering doesn’t offend me in the way I think the fascias would.

I would choose wood and also go for steel or aluminium guttering for a lovely finish
