Extension of a 1930s property
Who lives here?
Sian, her husband Jon and sons Archie 6 & Henry 4
Tell us about your renovation project and what changes you have made to your home?
We've added a side extension to our 1930s house. We added a porch, playroom/study, downstairs shower room, utility room and extended our kitchen plus we knocked down the wall between the kitchen and dining room. We also replaced the windows throughout the house.
What did you enjoy the most about your renovation project?
I enjoyed researching and planning using Pinterest, Instagram & magazines for inspiration and then seeing all our ideas coming together.
What has been the biggest challenge?
The dust, dirt and general chaos that a big renovation causes! It's also difficult making constant decisions as I tend to procrastinate! Small things like where you put light switches, which way you hang doors and where your power sockets go take a lot more thought than you realise!
What are you proudest about?
I love our kitchen and how practical it is now, especially the range oven and our full height built in larder fridge/freezer - my small under counter fridge wasn't cutting it in the last kitchen! The space is a lot more family friendly and I can see what the kids are up to. I'm also proud that we project managed it and sourced most of the materials etc ourselves.
What do you know now that you wish you knew at the start?
How long it would take! It took a year and there's still a lot to finish. It was worth it in the end though.
