We are extending our kitchen so it will be a lovely large kitchen. Our budget is going on the extension (sigh) so we will have to be smart with the actual units and fittings. Any tips to make it look more expensive that it is? Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

    Some ideas:
    – Cheap units but invest in quality surface
    – Off cuts for the surface
    – Showroom units
    – Shelving rather than cupboards – much cheaper which we did and it looks great too!

I’m sure others will have some great ideas….this is just what we did that might help to start!

We bought wooden surfaces rather than granite or quartz. They do need be maintained but were a fraction of the price and look really good.

Get a laminate worktops that looks like granite/quartz. You can also buy “oak effect” mdf doors. Look goof but much cheaper as well.

I would suggest getting savvy on the storage. Put your money into investing into good quality cabinets and counter tops that last but go basic inside. Then DIY your own storage system. There are some great ideas on Pinterest >> https://www.pinterest.co.uk/bathbespoke/rustic-kitchen-shelves/

You can also update your kitchen with some modern DIY additions. I wrote a blog piece on something similar here >> https://www.bathbespoke.co.uk/2017/02/07/how-to-refresh-kitchen-design-tips-from-team/

There are a lot of ways to make your kitchen look beautiful. Always try to use light colors on the walls and cabinets as it brightens the space making it look larger and in turn, more expensive. Use good artworks as it is a great way to elevate the kitchen. If possible paint the appliances stainless steel. Replace old decorative elements with new ones. These are just a few ways to make your kitchen look beautiful.
